Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

1. About this policy

Biz Buy International ("Biz Buy", "we", "us") operates an online marketplace connecting people selling businesses with people looking to buy, invest in, partner with or mentor them.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to our websites, including bizbuyint.com and listings.bizbuyint.com, and to every service offered through them.

By using our services you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the services.

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

2. Our position under Australian privacy law

Biz Buy International is an Australian business based in Queensland. Most small businesses with an annual turnover of $3 million or less are exempt from the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We currently fall within that category.

We have chosen to comply with the Australian Privacy Principles voluntarily, and we hold ourselves to the commitments in this policy regardless of whether the Act obliges us to. If our circumstances change so that the Act does apply, this policy will be updated and you will be notified.

Where you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, additional rights apply. See section 13.

3. What we collect

Account and contact information Name, email address, phone number in international format, preferred contact method, and your password (stored only as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store your actual password).

Your role and preferences Whether you are a buyer, a seller, or both. Industries you are interested in, locations, budget range, the deal structures you would consider, and your saved searches.

Seller information Details of the business you are listing: trading name or alias, industry, location, asking price, financial figures such as turnover and profit, years established, staff numbers, reason for sale, and any documents or images you upload. The name and contact details of the person responsible for the listing. Your ABN, where you choose to have it verified.

Buyer and partner profile information The description you write about yourself, your experience and qualifications, your declared available funds, your public LinkedIn profile URL where you choose to connect it, and any employment history you provide — including sections you have chosen to redact from public view.

Messages and enquiries The content of enquiries and messages you send to other users through the platform, and records of which listings you have enquired about.

Payment information If you purchase a paid product, our payment processor Stripe collects and holds your card details. We never see, receive or store your full card number. We hold a Stripe customer reference, the package purchased, the amount, the payment status and the renewal or instalment dates.

Technical information IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages visited, searches performed, referring website, and the dates and times of your visits.

4. What we do not collect

We have deliberately designed our services to avoid holding sensitive information. We do not collect:

  • Government-issued identity documents — no passports, driver licences, or tax file numbers
  • Biometric information — no facial recognition, fingerprints or voice prints
  • Bank statements, proof of funds documents, or evidence of financial capacity
  • Credit reports or background checks
  • Health information
  • Audio or video recordings of calls or meetings
  • Session recordings of your cursor movements or screen activity

Where our services show a "Funds Declared" indicator, that is a figure you have stated yourself. Biz Buy does not verify it, does not request evidence of it, and does not represent it as verified.

5. How we collect it

Directly from you, when you create an account, complete a profile, publish a listing, send a message, make a purchase, or contact us.

Automatically, through cookies and similar technologies when you use our websites.

From the Australian Business Register, when you ask us to verify an ABN you have provided. We record only the result of that lookup and the publicly available registration details it returns.

From LinkedIn, only the public profile URL you choose to give us. We do not access your LinkedIn account, connections or private data.

From our service providers, such as delivery and engagement information from our email provider.

6. Why we use it

  • To create and operate your account and provide the services
  • To publish your listing or profile in the form you have chosen
  • To match buyers with sellers and show you relevant results
  • To deliver enquiries and messages between users
  • To process payments, issue invoices and manage renewals and instalments
  • To send you service messages you cannot opt out of while you hold an account — enquiry notifications, payment receipts, security alerts and policy changes
  • To send marketing communications, where you have consented
  • To detect and prevent fraud, misuse and unauthorised access
  • To meet our legal, tax and record-keeping obligations
  • To understand how the services are used and improve them

We use automated processes to rank and recommend listings and profiles based on your stated preferences and activity. These affect what you are shown. They do not produce legal or similarly significant effects about you, and no decision about your access to our services is made by automated means alone.

7. What other users can see

This is a marketplace, so some information is published by design. This section explains exactly what.

Sellers. Your listing is public. If you choose to publish it as a confidential or blind listing, the identifying details you have marked confidential are withheld from public view and released only when you accept an enquiry or a non-disclosure agreement is signed. Financial details you mark private are not visible to unregistered visitors.

Buyers and partners. You may publish under an alias rather than your real name, and you may redact sections of your profile from public view. Redacted sections remain redacted. Your real name and contact details are disclosed to a seller only when you contact them, or accept contact from them — at which point their real name is disclosed to you as well.

Messages. Anything you write in an enquiry or message is visible to the recipient. Please do not include information you would not want that person to hold.

Non-disclosure agreements. Where an NDA is signed through our platform, the agreement is between you and the other user. Biz Buy provides a template as a convenience only. We are not a party to it, we do not provide legal advice, and we accept no responsibility for its adequacy or enforceability. You should seek your own legal advice before relying on it.

Verification indicators. Badges shown on profiles indicate only what they say. "Email Verified" means a link was clicked. "LinkedIn Verified" means a public URL was provided. "ABN Verified" means a lookup against the Australian Business Register returned an active registration. None is a character reference, a financial assessment or an endorsement by Biz Buy.

8. Cookies and advertising

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your searches and preferences, measure how our sites are used, and support advertising.

Essential cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off.

Analytics cookies help us understand which pages are used and where people encounter difficulty.

Advertising cookies. We run retargeting advertising. This means third-party advertising platforms may place cookies or identifiers that allow our advertisements to be shown to you on other websites and social media platforms after you have visited ours. These platforms may combine that information with data they hold about you from other sources. We may also provide a hashed version of your email address to an advertising platform so it can match you to an existing account and show you our advertising.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of interest-based advertising through the tools provided by each platform, or through industry opt-out pages such as the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative. Disabling cookies may affect how parts of our sites work.

Our sites do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals.

9. Marketing and SMS

By registering an account you agree to receive service-related messages. These are necessary to use the platform and cannot be switched off while your account is open.

Marketing emails require your consent and every one contains an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop service messages, so you will still be told when someone enquires about your listing.

Where you have given consent to receive SMS, we record the date and time that consent was given, as required under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). You may withdraw it at any time.

11. Overseas transfers

Some of our service providers are located outside Australia, as set out in the table above. Where we transfer personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled in a manner consistent with this policy and applicable law, including through the contractual protections offered by those providers.

Our primary database is hosted in Sydney, Australia.

12. Security

We protect personal information using access controls enforced at the database level, encryption in transit and at rest, hashed passwords, and access restricted to those who need it.

Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe, which is certified to PCI DSS Level 1. We do not store card numbers.

No system is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity that occurs under your login. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password and contact us immediately.

If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and, where required, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

13. Your rights and choices

You may:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct anything inaccurate or out of date — most of it directly through your account
  • Delete your account and request erasure of your information
  • Withdraw consent to marketing at any time
  • Object to your information being used for advertising
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format
  • Complain if you believe we have mishandled your information

To exercise any of these, email support@bizbuyint.com. We may need to verify your identity first. We will respond within 30 days.

Some information must be retained after account closure where we have a legal obligation to keep it, or where it forms part of a transaction record or a dispute.

If you are in the EEA or United Kingdom, we process your information on the basis of your consent, the performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating and improving the marketplace, and compliance with legal obligations. You additionally have the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

14. Retention

We keep your information while your account is open and for as long as needed to provide the services.

After closure we retain: transaction and tax records for seven years as required by Australian law; records of enquiries and agreements for as long as needed to resolve any dispute; and minimal records necessary to prevent a banned user re-registering.

Everything else is deleted or de-identified.

15. Children

Our services are for people conducting business and are not directed at anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.

16. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, email support@bizbuyint.com marked "Privacy Complaint". We will acknowledge within 5 business days and respond substantively within 30 days.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992. Residents of the EEA or UK may complain to their local data protection authority.

17. Changes

We may update this policy. The revision date appears at the top. Where a change is material, we will notify account holders by email or by notice on the site before it takes effect. Where a material change affects information we already hold and requires your consent, we will ask for it.
