1. About this policy

This policy explains how Biz Buy International ("Biz Buy", "we", "us") uses cookies and similar technologies on bizbuyint.com, listings.bizbuyint.com and any other site or service we operate.

It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal information generally, and our Terms and Conditions.

2. What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store. When you return, the browser sends it back, which lets the site recognise your device and remember things — that you are signed in, what you searched for, which filters you set.

Cookies cannot run programs, cannot read other files on your device, and cannot carry viruses. On their own they identify a browser rather than a person, but they can be linked to you when combined with information you have given us, such as your account.

This policy also covers similar technologies, which do comparable jobs by different means:

• Local storage — a larger, longer-lived store in your browser. We use it to keep your session and remember preferences
• Pixels and web beacons — a tiny invisible image on a page or in an email that records that it was loaded
• Software development kits — code supplied by a third party and embedded in our services

Where this policy says "cookies", it means all of these.

3. The categories we use

Strictly necessary. The services cannot work without these. They keep you signed in, keep your session secure, remember what you have consented to, balance load across our servers, and protect payment pages against fraud. They are set whether or not you consent, because switching them off would mean switching off the site. You cannot opt out of them and continue to use an account.

Functional. These remember choices you have made so you do not have to make them repeatedly — your saved searches and filters, your sort order, whether you have dismissed a notice, your display preferences.

Analytics. These tell us how the services are used in aggregate: which pages are visited, which searches return nothing, where people abandon a form, which listings are viewed. We use this to fix what is broken and improve what is not.

Advertising. These support our retargeting advertising. They record that you visited us so that our advertisements can be shown to you on other websites and social media platforms afterwards. Section 5 explains this in more detail.

4. What we actually set

Cookie names and lifetimes are set by the providers and change from time to time. The current list is always available through the cookie preferences link in our footer.

5. Advertising and retargeting

We run retargeting advertising. In plain terms: if you visit our site and later see a Biz Buy advertisement on another website, a social media feed, or a search results page, that is why.

How it works. Advertising platforms place a cookie or identifier on your device when you visit us. That lets them recognise your browser later, on other sites in their network, and show you our advertising there. We may also provide those platforms with a hashed — that is, scrambled and not directly readable — version of your email address so they can match you to an account you already hold with them.

What we do not do. We do not tell advertising platforms which specific business you looked at, what you offered for it, what you said in a message, or any financial figure from a listing or profile. Confidential listing content is never shared with an advertising platform.

What they may do. These platforms combine what they learn from our site with information they hold about you from elsewhere. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours.

Advertising cookies are only set where you have consented, and you can withdraw that consent at any time — see section 6.

6. How to control cookies

Our cookie banner. When you first visit, you are asked which categories you accept. Strictly necessary cookies are always on. Functional, analytics and advertising cookies are off until you turn them on.

Changing your mind. Use the Cookie Preferences link in the footer of any page. Your change applies from that moment. Cookies already set are removed or stop being used where the provider supports it.

Your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies through its settings or preferences menu, and offers a private browsing mode that discards them when you close the window. Blocking all cookies will stop you signing in and will break parts of the services.

Advertising opt-outs. You can also opt out of interest-based advertising through the tools each platform provides in its own account settings, and through industry pages such as the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Network Advertising Initiative. Opting out stops the advertising being targeted to you; it does not stop you seeing advertising.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Our services do not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, because no consistent standard for honouring them exists. We do honour Global Privacy Control signals where we are required to.

7. Consent

Non-essential cookies are not set before you have chosen. Functional, analytics and advertising cookies are placed only after you accept them in the banner or in your cookie preferences.

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we obtain your consent before setting any non-essential cookie, we make refusing as easy as accepting, and you may withdraw consent at any time without affecting anything already done lawfully on the basis of it.

In Australia, there is no cookie-specific consent law. Where a cookie collects personal information the Australian Privacy Principles apply, and we handle that information as set out in our Privacy Policy. We have chosen to offer the same banner and the same controls to everyone regardless of where they are.

Agreeing at sign-up is not the same as consenting to cookies. When you create an account you agree to this policy as a document. Your actual cookie choices are made in the banner and can be changed at any time in cookie preferences, whether or not you hold an account.

8. Cookies in emails

Our emails may contain a pixel that tells us whether the message was opened and whether links were clicked. We use this to tell whether important messages — an enquiry, a receipt, an instalment reminder — are reaching people, and to measure marketing.

You can stop most of this by setting your email program not to load remote images automatically.

9. Third parties

Some cookies described here are set by third parties, not by us. We choose those providers and require them to handle information appropriately, but their cookies are governed by their own privacy and cookie policies. The providers we use are listed in section 10 of our Privacy Policy, together with where they are located.

We do not permit third parties to use cookies on our services for their own independent purposes beyond those described in this policy.

10. Changes

We may update this policy as our services and providers change. The revision date appears at the top.

Where a change materially affects how we use cookies — for example introducing a new category or a new advertising provider — we will tell you and, where consent is required, ask for it again before the change takes effect.
